The Hilton Durham near Duke University is currently seeking an experienced Catering Sales Manager to join our award-winning team! We have recently completed a multi-million dollar transformation of all guest rooms, corridors and public space which boast a crisp, contemporary design. We offer an on-site restaurant as well as 12,000 square feet of flexible event space. We are the only hotel in the Triangle to offer PURE allergy-friendly purification systems in select rooms.

The Catering Sales Manager is responsible for managing accounts to achieve guest satisfaction; and ensuring all revenue goals are achieved or exceeded by soliciting past and new business. Requirements include: the ability to effectively communicate with guests in a friendly and positive manner; the ability to meet/exceed client needs and resolve complaints; and knowledge of departmental interaction and organizational structure in a hospitality context.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Solicit, negotiate and confirm new and repeat business through various efforts (outside sales calls, telemarketing, direct mail, referrals, networking, internet prospecting, etc) to maximize revenues to meet/exceed goals.
  • Prospect for new business. Track all leads (lost and turndown). Participate in transient and group lead referral. Complete Sales Qualification Sheets on all accounts, as instructed.
  • Conduct research on client catering revenue performance, prepare account performance reports quarterly and annually, conduct semi-annual account review meetings with account representatives.
  • Plan for and execute inside/outside calls and client entertainment.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and request for pricing.
  • Create and distribute effective internal and external communication (written and verbal).
  • Record, notify and coordinate customer specifications with other departments and quickly, efficiently respond to customer issues, comments and problems to ensure a quality experience and enhance future sales prospects.
  • Develop and implement creative sales strategy by analyzing historical, current and future hotel/market/account trends.
  • Maintain regular communication with all accounts. Communication to be property defined may include newsletters, client receptions/recognition functions, etc.
  • Coordinate local sales initiative and activities with Brand National Sales for national and regional accounts.
  • Understand catering sales strategies, strengths and weaknesses, and promotional programs.
  • Compile and present monthly sales reporting to management.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education: Four year college degree or equivalent education/experience

Experience: A minimum of one year catering sales experience in a related position with this company or other another organization. Hotel catering sales experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of sales/hospitality principles and practices
  • Ability to investigate and analyze current activities or information in the sales/marketing field and make logical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Previous experience in catering sales and/or group sales, Delphi experience, working knowledge of industry reports (i.e. Hotelligence) preferred.

TRAVEL REQUIRED: Frequent local travel. Periodic domestic and international travel (i.e. -- trade shows, sales conferences) required.

HOURS REQUIRED: Forty to fifty hours over a five day period.
